Terms of Service

Last updated: April 9, 2026

Plain language, no surprises. These terms govern your use of chosencal — the hosted service at chosencal.app. If you self-host, you're governed by the AGPL-3.0 license instead.

1. What chosencal does

chosencal is a calendar synchronization service. You connect calendar accounts (Google, Microsoft, CalDAV), and we keep events mirrored across them. We also offer booking pages so others can schedule time with you.

2. Your account

You sign in with an existing Google or Microsoft account. You're responsible for keeping access to that account secure. If you suspect unauthorized use of your chosencal account, email us immediately at hello@chosencal.app.

3. Your data

Your calendar data belongs to you. We store it to provide the sync service and delete it when you ask. See our Privacy Policy for the full details on what we store and why.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use chosencal to violate any law or infringe anyone's rights.
  • Attempt to access other users' accounts or data.
  • Abuse the sync engine to perform excessive API calls against calendar providers (our polling interval is fixed at 20 seconds — don't try to circumvent it).
  • Reverse-engineer the hosted service to extract proprietary infrastructure details (the app itself is open source — read the code instead).

5. Service availability

We run chosencal on best-effort infrastructure. We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uptime. Calendar sync may be delayed or interrupted due to provider outages, rate limits, or maintenance. We'll do our best to communicate planned downtime in advance.

6. Limitation of liability

chosencal is provided “as is” without warranty of any kind. We are not liable for missed meetings, double-bookings, lost events, or any damages arising from your use of the service. Calendar synchronization is inherently complex — always verify critical events directly with your calendar provider.

7. Open source

The chosencal application is licensed under AGPL-3.0. You can self-host it, modify it, and contribute to it. These terms apply only to the hosted service at chosencal.app — self-hosted instances are governed by the license.

8. Termination

You can stop using chosencal at any time by disconnecting your calendars and requesting account deletion. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with notice where possible.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. Material changes will be communicated via email. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance. The current version always lives at chosencal.app/terms.
